New Tweaks

Posted: December 5, 2010 in Reviews

This week I installed three new tweaks/apps to my iPhone4. I have not got around to putting them on my 3G[s] so I do not know how good they work on other devices. These are all three available in Cydia and no sources need to be added. YES! They are all three paid apps and I encourage you to do the right thing and pay them.

1)My favorite of the three is by far LockInfo by David Ashman(@Stimpy5050), he’s an amazing app developer and helped me out very quickly with some questions I had. Gotta love Twitter! LockInfo comes as a FREE 14 day trail package, but it took me less than 14mins to decide to purchase it. LockInfo displays all your important stuff on your Lock Screen. Mail, Calendar, Voicemail, Missed Calls, SMS, and even Notifications. These apps will now be ready to access from your Lock Screen and can even be launched from the Lock Screen as well, should you choose to have that feature checked. Although, these will be visible from your Lock Screen, privacy is NOT an issue. You are in complete control of what is displayed and where it is displayed.

I am not giving a tutorial, but I will show you how to change the Plug In Order, only because this is one thing I had trouble with. Access LockInfo>Plug Ins>Plug In Order>Hold finger on the gray lines at the right, drag each plug-in to your desired position.

All these important apps are now accessible from your Lock Screen. Need to know what is on your agenda for the day? Simply tap “Calendar” and your events drop down. Need to see if that email came yet? Same thing, tap “Email” and your emails will drop down. Customize your settings, so that you get a preview of the email or just the Sender or Subject, etc. You can even, choose to show ALL your accounts or just your main account. To change your LockInfo settings, Go To Settings and scroll down.

LockInfo also gives you the ability to hide your Slider and change your Unlock Gesture. Many of you may have played around with Activator and have already done this, from “Shake to Unlock” or “Hold the Sleep Button” or just changing slider direction, there’s not much you can not modify. I prefer the “Quickly Double Tap Home Button” to Unlock, with “Hide Slider.”

The best part about LockInfo is the Plug Ins that you can add, which are also available in Cydia, many of them for FREE, to add even more character to your iDevice. My favorite so far is the HTC- Plug In Add on. This adds the HTC Clock and Weather to your Lock Screen. This can also be customized and by tapping the clock you get a drop down six-day weather forecast.

This is just a quick and easy way to stay on top of your daily task and stay organized. Plus, having live weather on your Lock Screen is pretty cool on it’s on, one thing I think HTC, got right.

2) Chat Pic (BigBossRepo )by Jason Magahern is one of those apps/tweaks that blows my mind that Apple did not include stock, at least by now. But we all know they like to slowly give us stuff that jb-devs have been giving us for a while now. Such as Multi-task and Folders. But that’s another topic.

Chat Pic adds a Contact pic to your SMS app and allows to see a pic of the person you are texting while you are texting them. Great if you have multiple contacts with the same name or if you are ever in the middle of texting many people at the same time. Even better if you are texting two people with the same name at the same time. Of course, we’ve probably all sent that text to someone intended for someone else, some of us have probably even sent a text about somebody to the person that we were talking about. That’ s why you need Chat Pic. Go get it! It’s only $0.99!!!

3)WebLeaps (BigBossRepo) by Arron Lindsay @AerialX – WebLeaps a functional app that adds Keyboard short cuts to your Mobile Safari Search bar. Instead of having to go to each search engine or website you need or want information from you can simplify your search by adding a search phrase before you begin your search. We all know using a search engine can return many results that we just don’t need, so far for me, using WebLeaps has helped tremendously. Directly search Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia, Dictionary.com, eBay, and even You Tube.

There’s a couple dozen or more of the keywords used to simply your searches. Quickly search in Search Engines, Wiki, Shopping sites, Technology sites, and Social Network Sites including YouTube. WebLeaps is a Mobile Substrate and can be turned on/off using SBSettings. There is a small chance with some searches that it will conflict with your search. For example, if you are trying to search for information on GI Joes. You would normally type “gi joe,” but now with WebLeaps enabled this would return you Google Image results for people named Joe. No problem! Just add “g” to the beginning of your search. So you would type “g gi bills.” This will now search Google for GI Bills.

It may seem like a unnecessary app but it has been very useful. It filters out a lot of search results that always get thrown back anytime you just use Google. I have one thing I would change about it. I wish it was more like Universal Search, so you can use it from Spotlight. That would make it one of the best apps ever.

So there you have it peeps! That’s my reviews for the week. I hope this was a least somewhat helpful. Now, open Cydia, Install and Enjoy!

And as always – SUPPORT YOUR DEV$ – BUY YOUR APPS!
